Gutters are part of your roofing system and as such it is critical they function properly at all times. This means regular maintenance needs to be performed on them at regular intervals. Failure to do so just might wind up having to cost you thousands of dollars in repairs. Remember, gutters are the first line of defense against water sweeping into your house. If your gutters are broken, clogged or otherwise not properly functioning, you need to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Properly functioning gutters direct water away from your home. Clogged gutters cause water to pool around your foundation, and even seep into your basement. We recommend you clean out your gutters at least twice a year. Loosened gutters is also a problem to be dealt with. The weight of water, twigs and wet leaves over time can cause your gutters to pull away from their attachments. This means water is no longer directed through the gutters and away from your home. Again, this leads to the pooling of water around you foundation and possible seepage into your basement.

Cleaning your gutters requires a ladder as well as a few other essentials to make the job go smoothly. We recommend you wear gloves to protect your hands from sharp objects that might be in your gutter. A dust mask should be utilized as you will be stirring up quite a bit of dust. Wearing safety goggles is probably a good idea as debris will be flying about during the cleaning process.
