We are in the midst of the Louisville rainy season now, and if the three interior signs you may need a new roof didn’t convince you last month, the Kentucky spring may have done so by now. These are three more signs you may need a new roof or qualified roof repair.
Look Outside Your Home
Last month we discussed the three signs you may need roofing contractors, based on what you were seeing inside your home. However, sometimes this sort of damage is hard to see or detect, which is why it is important to also look outside your home for any signs of damage.
1 – Check the Health of Your Shingles
Your shingles are your home’s first defense against the outside elements. Because of this, they often take a beating and will show some of the first signs of any extensive damage. If you have asphalt shingles, look to see if there are any missing, cracked, curling, or buckling, particularly on the sides of your home that receive the most direct sunlight.
2 – Do You Have Valleys?
Similar to when you looked in your attic for a sagging roof deck, check the exterior for any valleys. Your roof should not be geographically interesting, otherwise rain doesn’t drain properly and you are more likely to have leaks or even cave-ins.
3 – Check Your Flashing
The flashing on your roof is the part where the roof meets any openings such as the chimney or exhaust vents. If it is no longer water-tight, you may have serious leaks and potential water damage. Look for signs such as cracking or shedding.
If you are noticing any of these signs, it’s time to call your Louisville roof repair and replacement specialists at HCI Roofing & Contracting.
